The manner in which Dr. Marshall resolved this pro- blem, as well as the miraculous recovery of his wife, Catherine from tuberculosis, made for some memor- able and inspirational moments. Football homecoming this year was held on September 28, a cold, blustery, wet night. This did not dampen the spirits of the football team, however, or the queen and her court. To the theme Love Is Sweet, Miss Patty Eakes was crowned the 1973 football queen in the pre-game ceremonies of the Greensburg game. Patty was crowned by Kent Miller. Her attendents were Miss Janice Eakes, escorted by Rock Ormiston, and Miss Cindy Seaman, escorted by Allan Willimon. Jack Bromwell escorted the 1972 queen. Miss Carla Kay Winfrey. Carla Kay presented Patty with red roses while the band provided the background music. They played the theme songs, Love Can Make You Happy, and The Candyman. Serving as flower girl was Cheryl Thomas with Gary Hittle as crown bearer. Pep Club provided the homecoming decorations. The queen and her court were seated on a grassy green platform backed by a huge heart joined by two small sweethearts on each side. A sparkly rainbow spanned the three hearts. Gumdrops, candycanes, and suckers were attached to the white pickett fences surrounding the court to top the scene off and make it a sweet evening. The game was close to the end and was finally concluded in overtime. Greensburg came out on top with the score of 12 - 6. The Krumb Kombo furnished after game entertainment at the dance honoring the queen and her court. February 1 was chosen to be the special night of basketball homecoming this year. A spotlight effect was created in the presentation of the candidates by shining colored lights through the darkened gym. With the band playing the theme song, Saturday in the Park, Miss Cindy Seaman was crowned the 1974 basket- ball homecoming queen before the varsity game with Cimarron. Cindy was crowned by Kent Miller. Her attendents were Miss Shelly Roberts, escorted by Kevin Eakes, and Miss Janice Eakes, escorted by Fred Bloom. Ronald Goering escorted the 1973 queen, Mrs. Peggy Borchers. Peggy presented the queen with her royal cape and red roses. Angie Chockley served as flower girl with Ryan Stappleton as crown bearer. Stuco supplied the decorations to the theme, Saturday in the Park. The queen and her court were seated on satin swings suspended from glittery coiled ropes. The background consisted of a park scene including a bridge over a brook, trees and flowers to make the evening special. Cimarron defeated Southwesterns Heights with a score of 66 to 62. A disc-jockey dance concluded the homecoming activities of basketball. The F.F.A. chapter held its annual Sweetheart contest on March 22. The six contestents were chosen by the chapter from the junior class. The girls must live on a farm or participate in farming activities to be eligable to compete. This year the candidates included: Janice Eakes, Debbie Hill, Denise Reiss, Sue Seaman and LuAnn Short. The contest was held outside at the West end of the building. The events this year were: goat milking, pulling a calf 20 yards, a wheelbarrow race, an egg toss, saddling a horse and driving a tractor. The combined total of points, those from the contest and those from the number of votes the chapter members cast, served to choose the sweetheart. Denise Reiss was chosen the F.F.A. Sweetheart of the Southwestern Heights chapter. She went on to compete for District Sweetheart at the district contest held at Garden City. She placed second runner-up in over all competition.
