Harrison Che Pen And JIuk Club The Pen Ink Club was created two years ago by students interested in pro- moting the creative use of poetry, prose, and artwork among the students, faculty, and staff of Southwestern Technical Col- lege. The Club collect poetry, prose, and artwork from STC students and staff and publish the material twice per year in a- magazine. The Pen Ink magazine is typed, edit- ed, and published on-campus and is free to anyone who wishes to have a copy. Pictured are Southwestern Technical College’s seventh and eighth graduating classes from STC’s National Park Service training program. The intensive ¥2 week program is one of only two programs in the United States and covers a variety of areas, preparing students to serve as Park Rangers in National Parks across the country. Currently, the Simulation Club is involved in fantasy role- playing games such as Dungeons Dragons. Eventually, the club may branch off into role- playing such as Gamma Worl or Metamorphis Alpha. Role-playing games are different from con- ventional games in that each player assumes the role of a character, each with different strengths and weaknesses. The games them- selves are an episodic collection of “adven- tures,” with no set “winner” or “loser”. ee Eles ett Se Ieee pe en : ¥ : = ee 3 ‘ : . ., ; gaarns ‘ STC’s Solar Mechanics, a new technology of the future, is one of the best such programs in the Southeast. Students are trained to install Solar Heating systems, and are encouraged to be conservation- minded, ecology-minded, and economy- minded. The program uses alot of ordinary instructional skills to achieve the use of this non-poluting alternative sourse of energy. INSULATION. But there is a:wom- an in our school who is dedi- cated, patient, and understand- ing to the students here at Southwestern. She is always ready to help, and never seems to mind all of our demands on her time. And because she is such an outstanding lady we, on behalf of the entire student body would: like to dedicate the Open Door ’8I to Jinnie Williams because we respect her, and we admire her-but most of all, be- cause we love her. -the Annual Staff ’8| 87 ADVERTISEMENTS PLT: IN’S evervre ) TO egal 90 “ite, 91 —RITE-WAY PACKAGE STORE Everette Street Bryson City Bob Marcella Massung Owners HICKORY RANCH BAR-B-QUE Franklin, N.C. , Full Menu Closed Mon.
