Lite SOUTHWESTERN TECHNICAL | INSTITUTE Dedication In the ten-year history of Southwestern Technical Institute, one man stands out as completely identifiable with the institution - President Edward E. Bryson. When STI was chartered in 1963, he left his post as supervisor in the public schools to take on the mul- tiple responsibilities of beginning such a venture. He has led STI through the growing pains of moving from a small vocational school to an independent, accredited technical insti- tute. Such progress demands high ideals of leadership, firm pur- pose, and the ability to impart one's visions to others - qualities which Mr. Bryson displays in full measure. He copes with the serious burdens of administration by keeping a youthful spirit and an interest in hobbies which include motorcy- cling, golfing, hunting and fishing. He lives in Cullowhee Valley with his wife, Ida, a social worker, and two daughters: Carolyn, assistant extension agent in Surry County, and Joyce, a WCU freshman. It is especially fitting that THE OPEN DOOR be dedicated to Mr. Bryson in this anniversary year. As a student publication, it reflects his faith in students and his concern for providing what will best serve us as we prepare for the future. This book is a token of our appreciation.
