One of the oldest traditions of Southwestern College has been the building of the mound. Dean Leroy Allen suggested the building of the mound in 1927. In 1962, the mound was moved to its present location there picturedj while Dar- beth Fine Arts Complex now stands at the ori- ginal site. At the time of the re-dedication of the mound, Dean C. Robert Haywood added a humorous postscript to Dean Allen's address, and Dean Haywood's postscript is read at the Mound Con- vocation held each fall. Part of the ceremony surrounding the mound is a procession around campus as well as other traditions which are further expounded upon during the ceremony. Upper Left: The mound is still growing! Lower Left: Some students seem to make a tradition of collecting parking tickets. Center Left: Each year the graduating class marches up the 77 steps. This year's class mounted the 53 steps due to repair of the 77. Upper Right: One of the many stones on campus represent- ing various achievements of the college. Center: Faculty leads the way to the Senior Recognition Ceremony. Lower Right: The jinx has been Southwestem's mascot for years.
