MOMENTS TO REMEMBER Some months ago a brochure came to my desk entitled nTHE GREAT MOMENTS OF YOUR LIFE? I reflected upon two words: iIGREAT,,e uMOMENTS. Great is a word used to describe bigness, vastness and elements of power. A Moment is so tiny, so fleeting so full of movement and passes so uickl . q wa could it be that these two very different words should be linked together to describe some experience that would never be forgotten? We can- not recall most of life's moments. They are described by an anonymous writer who said: iILost, one golden hour! Set with sixty diamond seconds. No reward offered For it is lost forever? But I can remember those great moments in college that changed my life. They include: 0 The first time I was elected to a responsible position by my classmates. 0 When my favorite professor expressed confidence in me. 0 The sense of joy and wonder that came from quiet worship. ' The first time I knew i7 could? 0 The time when the Dean asked me to assist him in a program. 0 The clean, good feeling within when I refused to cheat even though I could have gotten by with it. O The time when the President called me by my first name. 0 The moment when I was presented my college degree. . The moment I realized that I had found the girl of my dreams, When the artist, Charles M. Russell of Montana was at the height of his fame, he was asked by a reporter just what he considered to be his greatest picture. Russell considered the gallery of his magnificent scenes of the early West. Then, he answered, iII have not painted it yet. In that spirit we realize that Iifeis greatest moments have not yet been experienced. f Let us accept the Moments to Remember and build upon them for the uture. C. ORVILLE STROHL President B.A., Southwestern College Th.M., Iliff School of Theology D.D., Iowa Wesleyan College IMHW I i. .i' 31.11. I 3;. At home, Dr. and Mrs. Strohl.
