Foreword From the windows of Southwestern Central High School one can see beautiful Chautauqua Lake and the many boats that skim across its blue expanse. With this in mind, the staff of the I959 Centralion have chosen SAIL- ING TO SUCCESS THROUGH SOUTHWESTERN as the theme of this book. As you read the pages of this logbook of your' 58-59 year at Southwestern, we hope that you will recall memories of your classes, of your extracurrricular activities, of the many valuable friendships you have made. If you have ac- quired a store of practical knowledge, if you have gained something in leadership, if you have learned a sense of fair play, you have begun a successful voyage. When you look out at the boats on the lake, compare them to yourself. The boat that is skimming along with sails set to the wind may be compared to the student that sails through school very easily. The boat that is strug- gling against the wind trying to reach port may be compared to the student who Struggles hard to obtain his education. Chart your course with boat well-manned, with sails set high, with a definite destination in sight, so the latter part of your journey may be on a calm sea fanned by gentle zephyrs. We hope, as you read the pages of this logbook, you will feel that you have had a rewarding experience in charting your course through South- WeSfel'I'I. ' 2
