Honors Are Besiowed Southwestern was honored to have an ad- ministrator and a faculty member elected to state offices last year at the State Junior College Convention. For the past year Dr. Farmer served as president of the Texas Junior College Association which involves over 60 Junior Colleges in Texas. Mrs. Louise Harrison served as Social Chairman for the state association. Both offi- cers worked diligently to make this year's state convention in Fort Worth, held Febru- ary l3-l5, a success. Other administrators and faculty members from Southwestern who served on the social committee included Thomas Harrison, William Johnson, Morris Paschall, Mrs. Helen Davis, Mrs. Elizabeth Wilson, Mrs. Miriam Reinhold, W. E. Davis, Jessie Moon. James Haddock, Hugh Jeter, and .lerry Shepperd. Mrs. Montgomery, President of the Texas State Junior College Teach- ers' Association, greets the Har- risons in the receiving line at the Past Presidents' Reception. Dean Harrison gave the invocation at the convention banquet. Miss Movelda of the TJCTA, chats E. W. Moore. Mr. Moore served as President of the i' Dr. Famier presided over the general session of the con vention held in Fort Worth's new Convention Center. Southwestern Junior College Has Been Grantee: Full Accreditation bg the Southern Association ol' Colleges and Schools. lt was officially announced by Dr. Blake L. Farmer, College President, to the student body in the special as- sembly on the morning of December 5. E. W. Moore, former Dean of the College, was present as a special guest of Dr. Farmer and was introduced to the students. Dr. Farmer read a brief history of the junior college which began in 1945, under the direction of Mr. Moore. In his remarks Mr. Moore congratu- lated the administration, faculty, and student body on the accreditation. He called the momentous occasion a mile- stone in the history of the collegef' Mr. Harold Cadd, Vice President of Laymen's Council for the West Texas District was the featured speaker for the assembly. The Lubbock business- man is presently employed in the medi- cal division of the Gerber Baby Food Company and attends Highlands As- sembly of God Church.
