Luke 10:27 Daily chapel services, undergirdecl hy prayer groups, dorm devotions and personal devo- tions, and witnessing provide the claily nu- trients for a healthy spiritual life. Spirit-filled instructors, missionary speakers, pastors, evangelist, and dorm deans add to that flavor which is Cod working through Southwestern. Along with the color and excitement of recreation goes a serious purpose-that of building a strong society physically. A good athletic program produces a person who is physically fit, mentally fit, and spiritually fit. Besides instruction students receive in men's and w0men's gym classes, Southwestern has an excellent intermural sports program. Among the various sports offered are football, basket- ball, volleyball, and baseball. 'EE 1.2 X, Ti. w.-Y DEVELOPING ACADEMIC Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed. I1 Timothy 4:15 In our rapidly developing society, the demand for academic excellence increases steadily. Over five million young people in the United States are enrolled in college. With increase in scientific developments, Chris- tian young people must also develop intellectually in order to fulfill their responsibilities as American citizens and to appreciate our democratic heritage. The faculty at Southwestern strive to stimulate intellectual curiosity and eagerness for lifelong learning in their students while up- holding the doctrines of our faith which are so dear to us. She worked part time to make her way through school and graduated in 1943. She was an earnest, consecrated student and was very serious about the work of the Lord. In 1945 she returned to serve as Li- brarian and Study-hall supervisor. At that time the school had only a small group of books which were not catalogued right and not used very much. Miss Ellis went to Denton to North Texas State College and continued her educational preparation during the summers and became a well- trained librarian. She has been responsible for securing and cataloging thousands of books for the library. She has zealously labored to keep the books in shape and available for the use of faculty and students. On one occasion a faulty stove caused a fire in the old frame library building and Miss Ellis fought the fire and saved the books at the cost of severe burns to her hands and arms. For several years before it was built, she helped to plan and pray for the present fire- proof building. For over twenty years she has labored and provided the best library in any of the Assembly of God schools. This year Miss Ellis is listed in Wl1o's Who of American Women. -5 Vfy -Asl- v s T ,- .-5 J, .i Jfb 'WWW .. 5 wllrfl November M r 1819 wrrs I2 14 15 21 22 f-for-4 Q ' . Ii f 1 . ,,.f.-,..--ffl V, :gp xg,--.f .I The Rev. Jeter, who has valuable missionary experience, serves as the sponsor for the Missionary Association. MISSIONARY ASSOCIATION Southwestern Missionary Association is a unique body in that it comprises the entire student body, faculty, and staff. Those who lead the organization seek to bring one ultimate goal into every phase of campus function- World Evangelization. Therefore, the efforts of the Asso- ciation are, in reality, the efforts of the school populus. Each person may involve himself in prayer for financial support or in an effort to keep the torch of world evan- gelistic ardor burning on campus. Specific efforts are campus prayer groups, annual faith promises to support the missions budget, and the sum- mer missionary internship program which involves stu- dents in actual on-the-field activity. Integral in keeping a unified zeal are the weekly missionary chapels and the annual Missionary Convention. Praise is clue the Lord of the harvest for His faithfulness in motivating and equipping laborers through S.A.G.C. Spring semester of '67, over one hundred enrolled as missions majors, and over one hundred Southwesterners were at that time serv- ing fulltime as appointed missionaries on some field. Continually the theme of the annual Missionary Conven- tion faces everyone: Who Will Go? President: Vice President: Roy Smeya Duane Collins 'W Secretary: Treasurer: Marilyn Davis Myrna Green PR YER GROUPS The purpose of the India prayer group is to help the students of S.A.G.C. realize the need for intercessory prayer. It is a ministry in which the students give out to others instead of receiving only for themselves. Another purpose is that through these prayers our fellow- men will receive the things they need on the foreign field. The India prayer group has had a variety of programs this yearg among these are listening to anointed speakers and viewing slides and films. Below: Every Wednes- day when the Latin Ameri- ca prayer group meets, thc joint prayerful cry of each of our members is for Iost, hungry souls. Specif- ic needs of missionaries on Latin American soil are presented. Not only does each member carry a burden for these souls, but he puts his burden into action through corre- spondence. Students write letters asking the mission- aries for requests as well as reports on the outcome. God has made our prayers victorious. ., A... . , , -e:.i4f sf+r?sf.H ' ,, 'S-.4 to 't 21m,.f:.'-TW' ,E f y ,r '4..f fl 'ffi , . ..19f4- 5' fi-fa ., '.., ,ff 'fir'-156 K -4 vs- J If A' 1.1 , . ,tv x -2133 iii. 3 gr . :f...,.e-,fl '1'- 4 'A V- O X INDIA PRAYER GROUP-Leader Carolyn Walthall fstandmg2 Clifton Carter Larry Wimberly Sammy F Anita Cox, and Mary Hudspeth. The prime object of the African prayer hand is to intercede for the lost of Africa, praying that God will continually minister to His children that are labor- ing on the African field. They take to heart the Lord's prayer request when He said, pray ye there- fore the Lord of the Har- vest, that He will send forth labourers into His harvest. They have not only a vision for Africa, but for the whole field. The group has taken on zt project to help one of the African missionaries in need. Their motto is: To minister and not to be ministered to. The Students in the Teen Challenge prayer group have the soul of every lost teenager in America today on their hearts and on their prayer list. They see the vast mission field placed before them in our teenagers who are search- ing for true meaning. The Teen Challenge group's scripture is: And what- soever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glori- fied in the Son.
