Though the memories of each are different, and even in one student's mind the year has produced a variety of impressions, they all have a common denominator. All have contributed to our quest. Cer- tainly in anyone's thinking a main factor in our development during the year has been the dedicated faculty of our college. As We allow our thoughts to Wander over life at SUC, there comes to View the image of a man - a big man in many ways. Who could forget this man's history classesg his laugh down the hallg his stern but fair discipline to each student under his super- visiong his leadership in terms of responsibility to both student and facultyg his Christian spirit toward a troubled student's heart? Because We feel that you have been a harmonizing influence to both administration and student bodyg have a genuine concern for our schoolg and above all that our quest for knowledge has been enhanced by your service on our campus, we want to dedicate this 1964 MIZPAH to you - George Thomson. M553 1 V I : ' , ff: .'f f fxk 1. 1 I 1 3 . v I A., In froalu ation The face of collected wisdom is haunting to the unlearned. For in the heart of mortal man has always existed a longing for knowledge - a desire implanted by his Creator. To the inquiring mind this need takes the form of a challenge to the intellect. As the mind struggles up the heights of intellectual achievements, clutching fingers are incessantly grasping toward the goalg yet they seem to fall inches short. xv K1-.. ,I ' fr! D . .4-San The Iirst pair in the garden possessed the desire for knowledge and wisdom. In fact, this desire, indulged without discretion or restraint, loosed the curse of sin upon the earth. Centuries of sin and degradation eventually perverted the mind in its quest for knowledgeg increasing until it reached its climax in that area of the earth's history known as the Dark Ages. During this time the basic need of man for knowledge became effaced almost beyond recognition. Knowledge became something to be feared. Man ceased to think for himself and clung to any superstition or idea advanced by the clergy But the mind of man created in the image of God refused to be subjected to the deception of Satan forever. A resistance built up, weak at first, then stronger and stronger, like flood Waters piling up again And when the dam could cope with the flood no longer, the flood burst upon the World in a blinding flash - the Renaissance. st a dam Drops of knowledge flung around the world blended each decade into the intricacies and complexities of the twentieth century. Man's very existence demonstrates the results of knowledge when put to the uses of Satan. Around the world nations are now actively training men and women in an education designed to further the destructive power of this perverted knowledge. 9 x 1 X 1 1 ., HVZL A L ,,,:f.,. r7,'Fr,.+f:1- . ,. In such times it is imperative that the people of God, who look for 'His soon return, should maintain schools for the preparation of their youth in a life of service to Christ. These institutions attempt to point the student to the reality that God is the source of all true wisdom - a certainty which will be realized by all who follow to the very end the Quest for Knowledge and eternal Wisdom. - Z v V X I Vigil 0 'J2, L' , af w x S .. ,- . ffff V . ,ww ., w -,,iv,1. .- ,..L- 5 . ,, , 9:1 V ., V A ,, ,xk 4 -.'f-- r QV' ,.-A Q1-I, A '.,g'.J - ' ' , k 4 Y, HN. GEORGE THOMSON, M.A. Academic Dean- Dedfl is Message In a world searching for truth, great progress has been made in scientific education in the past few years. These changes in the educational world have had their effect on our institutions, but we must not allow them to affect the standards of our church-related college. We as Seventh-day Adventists must be more than careful that we follow the plan which has been our guide. Our distinct purpose, to prepare young people for a place in God's Kingdom, must never be lost or perverted to fit the material needs of men. Congratulations to the student leaders of this school year, 1963-64, and may they find here at Southwestern Union College the principles and the power from God to be the spiritual leaders of a world seeking to find its way back to its Heavenly Father.
