■ Nothing Dampened the Bear Spirit It was the beginning of another 50 year reign for Southwest Junior College and the rain poured down. That didn’t dampen the spirits at SMJC’s 51st, though. The show went on. All week the Bears showed their spirit by participating in spirit days—dressing up as cowboys and Indians, hunters in camou¬ flage, and some of us even once or twice looked like rejects from somewhere else in time. An open house kicked off the festivities Saturday and visitors were allowed, for the first time, to tour the Southwest interdenomi¬ national chapel. That night, rain didn’t stop the Bear power either. The Bears defeated their arch-rival the Co-Lin Wolves 17-10. At half-time, Queen Vivian Reynolds was crowned. The weather occasionally caused a change of plans or place but it never hurt the Bear spirit. Randy Benedetto and Monica Lacey dress up for mix and match day. Open house into the boy’s dorm was one of the main attractions for homecoming day. Donnie Ward and Don¬ ald Seale show Jeanne Payne, Renee’ Richmond, and Angie Hightower around their home away from home. Homecoming Week 27
