Scenes Of The Times ... Continued Graduation speakers—Rev. Robert Norman Smith, President Horace Holmes, Dr. Aubrey Lucas, and Rev. B.F. Gerald On Sunday, May 7, in the Holmes Gymnasium, commencement exercises were held for the 1978 graduating class at Southwest. There were 195 candi¬ dates for degrees. University of Southern Mississippi President Dr. Aubrey Lucas spoke on the theme “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.” The invocation was by Rev. B.F. Ger¬ ald, pastor of the Forest Grove Method¬ ist Protestant Church in Monticello and the benediction by Rev. Robert Norman Smith. SMJC chorus sang “My Faith Looks Up to Thee ’ and Laura Moak presented a medley from “The Sound of Music.” This was the sixtieth annual com¬ mencement for Southwest. If you can imagine it, you can pos¬ sess it. If you can dream it, you can be¬ come it. If you can envision it, you can attain it. If you can picture it, you can achieve it. —William Arthur Ward Education is the process of ascend¬ ing the steps of information, knowl¬ edge, truth, understanding and wisdom.
