Dedication His Life—“One grand, sweet song. Charles Kingsley Wit, enthusiasm, determination— these are the qualities that characterize the one to whom the 1967 Whispering Pines is dedicated. With his friendly manner and interest in young people, he has endeared himself to the students, at the same time commanding their respect. He was Southwest ' s first band director, having formed a band when he was a student here. Now a retired Marine, he works tirelessly with a small group to produce a band of which we can all be proud. For your patience, sincerity, and hard work, we proudly dedicate the 1967 Whispering Pines to you, Mr. Stephen A. Jones 4

That Wonderful Year To many of the citizens of the surrounding area Southwest may be only a junior college at Summit, Mississippi; however, to those of us here at S.M.J.C. ours is a wonderful school. The 1966-1967 session was a wonderful one for Southwest Junior College. A hot autumn came with pep rallies, football games, homecoming, and Thanks¬ giving holidays. As winter came, the weather grew colder, and students quick¬ ened their paces in eager anticipation of Christmas holidays — the calm before the storrr of semester exams. We went to basketball games and kept up with school news by reading The Pine Burr. Then came spring, and S.M.J.C. was at her peak. We were all kept busy with the Azalea Trail, final examinations, and Sophomore graduation, but not too busy to look forward to summer va¬ cation. Sophomores leave S.M.J.C. to go on to senior college, the armed forces, marriage, or a job. Others stay behind, anticipating the next year when they will be sophomores. To those leaving, may the 1967 Whispering Pines serve to remind you of That Wonderful Year—1967. To those who will be here next year, may the 1967 Whispering Pines inspire you to even greater heights in the future. I am not a teacher! only a fellow-traveller of whom you asked the way. I pointed ahead—ahead of myself as well as of you ' —Shaw. . Miss j t . College Liwafl
