1 I The bleachers roared when the bears took the field and school spirit ran High, but luck wasn ' t with us and a heartbreaking tie of 0-0 was the final outcome of the game. Yes, school had really begun, and with it the backing qf Our bears . Whether it was on the football field, in our class¬ rooms, or elsewhere, we lived for the Rah Bears And S.MJ.C. was our home.. The hard fighting bears took to the road followed by cars and the old bus full of students. And al¬ though the spirit was high and loud and the girls came home sounding like fog horns, injuries took their toll and the crippled bears lost to Pearl River 38-0, and Hinds 40-15. Nevertheless you can ' t keep a good team down and we still backed our team and prepared for the Homecoming festivities to be held on October 22. i Cheerleaders help keep the spirit high

Teachers prepare schedules for coming year 1961 Whispering Pines School began on August 31, 1960 this year. Sum¬ mer had ended for teachers and students alike. The excitement and confusion was no different from the years gone by . And many a sophomore was stopped and asked directions by an excited freshmcrh. We sat in the first assembly and waved to old friends and looked for new ones. Opening exercises were begun and we listened with the realization that school had begun. Cheerleaders were elected that day because of our first ballgame a scarce two weeks a- way. The first few days were hectic ones. The change of schedules and the crys of many students who couldn ' t take chemistry and still eat breakfast in the den were heard. But as our first week progressed these com¬ plaints died down. During the second week they were replaced by Beat Itawamba. Our newly elected cheerleaders be¬ gan preparing for the first ballgame of the season. Students get

Freshmen admire one another A break in the homecoming plans came on September 30, at 4:00 a.m. and time for Freshman Day at S.MJ.C. Getting up at :00 a.m. is bad enough but sub¬ mitting to shoe polish, white wash, lipstick and in¬ side out clothes is worse. Ask any freshman. First on the schedule was a parade down to President Huddleston ' s home to sing the Alma Mater. Everyone enjoyed this immensely, especially the Hud¬ dlestons. The spirit was so high that the freshmen were asked to sing for several of the other teachers. Next the bedecked freshmen were taken to the tennis court to play a stimulating game called Drop the Pillow. After this strenuous game the freshmen were herded into the cafeteria where they waited (last in line of course) patiently for breakfast. But alas, who can eat standing up equipped with only a knife and interrupted at timely intervals by the call of air raid. So the famished freshmen left the cafeteria only slightly fuller than they came in. Classes still began at 8:00 but ran on a short¬ ened schedule for the long awaited assembly at 9:40. Assembly was decorative and amusing, we had, tire rolling, weightlifting, yodeling, piano play¬ ing and a lovely aria by J. L. Pass. The assembly ended with yells rendered by some freshmen appointed cheerleaders and a wait till next year attitude.
