Queen Pat and her lovely court relax at Nancy Lamb’s house before Valentine Dance on the fourteenth. February 14, 1961 and we had our Valentine Dance. For the first time in history the dance was held in the old library. Immediately after the basketball game with Co- Lin (which we won) the girls rushed to the dormi¬ tory to donn the formals for the big affair. The decorations were beautiful as usual and after the coronation, the floor was filled with happy dancing couples. It was all over too quick, but a good time was had by all. Joyce and Cynthia won events in the speech contest.

School progresses and already the year is three fourths over. The dedication of the new Simmons Library is behind us and so is the Southern Regional Debate Tourna¬ ment, held here this year. Miss Hay has much to be proud of with her students scor¬ ing 12 points and winning over Jones, Hinds, and Pearl River. Our Debate team was victor¬ ious and first places were cap¬ tured in dramatic interpretation and oral reading. Second places were won in after dinner speak¬ ing, extemporaneous speaking, and original oratory. We always knew Southwest could out talk anybody anywhere. We enjoyed our Mississippi Assembly programs An attentive audience listens to a convincing speaker. i i ■vm-
