Spring is coming. Just ask Phyllis and Bud. Even peaches senses something amiss. Spring fever hits bear too, you know. Willis Smith seems to be enjoying the weather or is it the pretty photographer? Spring has nothing to do with the antics in the girls dorm. How does it feel on bottom Pat? Yes, warm weather is on its way and with it many more of our school activities. The Valentine Dance is held and the Speech Departments hold a contest. The Hall of Fame is chosen, and at long last the boys begin to take notice of the girls. The trees are beginning to have more foilage and classes relax. Why even Mrs. Edwards lets us out early. Rods and reels are brought out and once again the answer to that de¬ ba table question of whether there are fish in that lake is sought.

Jerry Simmons buys a coke from Joe Barnett, our notorious concessions stand keeper. Christmas comes and goes and semester exams are faced and grades are distributed, as Southwest again resumes its calm air. Chemistry students plod on as well as others. Courses are started and then dropped but a new sensation is in the air. Basketball season is in full swing and the Bears pile up a tremendous record of 18 conference wins and two losses. Yes the fans are jubilant and Coach Holmes is mighty proud. But. Mr. Bryan, I always set my apparatus up this way.

Queen Pat and her lovely court relax at Nancy Lamb’s house before Valentine Dance on the fourteenth. February 14, 1961 and we had our Valentine Dance. For the first time in history the dance was held in the old library. Immediately after the basketball game with Co- Lin (which we won) the girls rushed to the dormi¬ tory to donn the formals for the big affair. The decorations were beautiful as usual and after the coronation, the floor was filled with happy dancing couples. It was all over too quick, but a good time was had by all. Joyce and Cynthia won events in the speech contest.
