PRESENTING ' -¥f%te |gR. V ' m •’ ' v ' S ' ! ' W’VX WHISPERING PINES 1949 Editor-in-Chief—Alton Boyd Business Manager—Helen Rushing Southwest Junior College Summit, Mississippi 2 PRESIDENT C. H. SNELL £)eclicci tion All that one has done heretofore cannot be graded justly, lest the toil and sweat of labor has come about through the goodness of one’s heart . C. H. Snell, our President, has more than labored to make Southwest a school of superb standing in education, friendliness, and efficiency — he has poured forth his heart in goodness, understanding, and sincerity. He is a man who has been close to us—we humbly and graciously dedicate this, the 1948-49 issue of The Whispering Pines to him. The conclusion of the 1948-49 school session marks the close of the thirty-first session of Southwest Mississippi Agricultural High School and Junior College. During that time many students have come and gone from our campus; administrators, faculty, and staff members have come and gone also. Lasting impressions have been made while associating here. Many young men and women have greatly benefited by experi¬ ences here and have gone out into the world as benefactors of mankind. Southwest Mississippi Junior College has stressed quality rather than quantity throughout her long tenure of service. It is doubtful if any other institution of comparable enrollment has had a greater per cent of her sons and daughters to make any more marked advancement in the academic, business and professional world. These who had a part in helping to guide these young people can take justifiable pride and satisfaction. Southwest Mississippi Junior College is so interwoven with the life of the people of this area that nothing can happen to the one without affect¬ ing the other. In almost every neighborhood of this vicinity this institu¬ tion has demonstrated its influence in better homes and in families of character and worth. Southwest is more than a campus and buildings. Primarily, it is a spirit—a spirit that took years to build—a spirit of congeniality for and appreciation of our fellow man. This spirit is perhaps the most valuable asset that our Institution pos¬ sesses. Let us breathe deeply of it that we may be true to the finest tra¬ ditions of Democrary and Christianity. Let us look forward with hope and confidence that we may be true to those who have preceded us, and may make our full contribution to gen¬ erations that follow. 5 cm icerd of ddministrutlon BOARD OF TRUSTEES Pike County C.
