Southwest traveled to Ellisville for the first game of the season. The team, composed mostly of freshmen, lost to the state champions 27-0. Being made of freshmen, the team was green, and the boys were new to one another. The Pilots first tasted victory when they whipped the Miss. College freshmen 12-0. In the game with Scooba, Southwest scored the winning touchdown in the last quarter with only a few minutes remaining in the game. Southwest showed amazing offensive power marching down the field to a score the opening minutes of play against the strong Moorhead team. The game ended 26-13, with score to Moorhead’s credit. The Homecoming game was announced by a downpour of rain. Decatur, a power team, held the upper hand most of the 22-0 battle, the slippery ball stopping the tricky offense of Southwest’s football team. Next year’s team will be made up of mostly sophomores, more experienced at the game and playing with each other. Those leaving the team are tackle Golman Lee, guard Charles Terrell, ends Wayne Sauls, John Greer, and backs Danny Dilorati and Frank Hurst. Band under the direction of Mr. George Wimberly, is one of the outstanding junior college bands in the state. The great showing made at the many athletic events is due to the faithful work of the director and band members. At every football game the past season, the band was found doing its utmost to instill the victory spirit into the team and specta¬ tors alike. One of the most enjoyable concerts was the one given on the annual Senior Day program. The highlight of the year was the excellent showing made at the Spring Festival. Six members of the band were selected to participate in the All-State Junior College Band concert. The band was led in its many parades by head drum major, Lewis Hammack, and majorettes, Margaret Page and Shirley Felder. The Pep Squad, under the direction of Miss Anabel Cox, which works with the college band, consists of thirty-six members and two majorettes. Its purposes are to lend a colorful and peppy appearance and to put on spectacular shows between halves at football games. The Glee MR. The bombardier high over Burma, the girl loading machine gun bullets in some New England arsenal, the farmer in his field, the student in the class room, are all fighting the battle for freedom. To win this war will take the unified effort of every man and woman in this great country. There is a job for every one of us to do. So long as there is a threat to our liberty, our freedom of religion, enterprise, education — so long as any of the rights of the American people are threatened, we will fight. And the work and sacrifice of all will tilt the scales toward Victory. 3 --- NEHI BOTTLING The Palace Theatre COMPANY McCOMB, MISS. The show place of Southwest Mississippi. McComb - - Miss.
