President’s Message MR. J. M. KENNA, President To Southwest Friends Greetings, These are troublesome times. It is such a pity, such a tragedy, that so much ma¬ terial wealth, and so much irreplaceable values in human lives are being hopelessly destroyed in and by means of war. The only consoling thought is that there are some things more precious than wealth, than life even. Our way of life, our free¬ dom, our ideals, our institutions are a trust handed down tc us by our forebears who purchased these things with their blood, their t ears, their suffering, and we, their ancestors, will not measure up to this trust, unless we preserve our inheritance at all costs. Let there be no question— American manhcod and womanhood will forever be worthy of this trust. Our schools are American and will carry forward Amer¬ ican ideals to future generations. Southwest will hold high the torch of freedom, along with other American institutions. Youth of America, I Salute You. IX
