They Cheered Us Cn We've got spirit . . . And they certainly did. The Southwest cheerleaders proved throughout the year that all hard work and practice paid off in the end. Starting from cheerleading camp in the summer, var- sity and j.v. squads began to prepare for football and basketball seasons. Throughout the year, these girls spent hours practicing for games and pep rallies. Uniting the student body was not an easy task. Howev- er, the cheerleaders did their job . . . and they did it well. Auxiliary Corps: Whip It Good What's purple and white, smiles a lot, twirls a flag, and has loads of en- ergy and spirit? The answer is the Southwest Twirler and Lancer Corps. Practicing on the fields since Au- gust, in order to perfect routines and march in the football games, both corps worked hard to receive a supe- rior rating at the National Band Contest held in November. With their deep purple and pearl white silk flags waving in the wind, the girls moved to each beat of the music. The Twirlers and Lancers added variety and style to the half- time shows.
