Record Breakers Taking the challenge of coaching at a school is a difficult thing to do, but this is exactly what Alvin Fitz- gerald did in his first year as j.v. coach. He took the baby Eagles and made them winners. They not only had a good season, but they broke the record for the number of wins that any j.v. basketball team has had in the history of Southwest High School Qin one seasonb. Lady Eagles Win The girls' basketball team strug- gled through a tough schedule, play- ing against some very strong schools. But under the direction of a new coach, R.J. Harper, the girls never gave up. Harper's enthusiasm and confidence always encouraged the young team. The Lady Eagles' sc,-.afrofis high- light came with a 4 8 13 6 victory over a rival Sunset teani. The girls were good hustlers, al- though their outside shooting was the biggest weakness. Leading the team were captains, Mary Bea Mazzeo and Tina Carnival. Guard Lisa Stott and forwards Kathy Lesman and Martii Salazar were starting sophomores who ad- justed well to varsity play. Kathy Lesman attacks the Sunset defense.
