ASCISPNT PRINCIPAL A cover of a recent bulletin had a full-page picture of a chair with the imprint: Don't just sit there — do something! Whatever a person s profession may be: salesman, doctor, bricklayer, artist, business executive, or housewife, one ingredient is evident in all who are a success — they are in pursuit of a goal because they have pride in themselves and their work. This pursuit is essential if we are going to make this world a better place in which to live. Insofar as there is progress toward this end, the best of yesterday becomes the average of today, and the best of today becomes the average of tomorrow. William C. Phillips PRINCIPAL To the Class of 1967: You have selected pursuit as the interesting theme for your 1967 WAGISTANIAN. The Declaration of Independence states that one of the unalienable rights of man is the pursuit of happiness. This statement implies that happiness is not a state of being which can be accomplished without effort, without conscious pursuit. Happiness is a worthy goal that involves the pursuit of the ingredients of which it is composed. The pursuit of knowledge; the pursuit of a rewarding career; the pursuit of physical and emotional health; the pursuit of opportunities to serve our fellow men; the pursuit of spiritual faith and the appreciation of cultural and worthwhile values are all involved in the pursuit of happiness. My wish for each of you is that this lifetime pursuit has received an inspired beginning at Southwest High School. R. H. Classon 8
