DIARY OF ANNE FRANK The lights dimmed, the audience became silent, and the curtain parted, slowly revealing a dusty, deserted attic in Amsterdam, Holland. Thus began the tragic story of a young Jewish girl, forced into the confining walls of a secret room to escape Nazi Germany oppression. As each act, preceded by Anne's quiet voice, unfolded, the worried suspense of the characters crept through the room, and filled each on-looker with tense excitement. Then, the soldier's shouts rang out and the curtain drew to a final close. The audience flowed onto the stage to congratulate the cast on their inspirational presentation, and walked away with the tear-stained realization that what they had seen was one of the finest plays in Southwest's history. 24
