The Southwest Varsity Wrestling Team enjoyed an extremely successful season in 1988. Under the instruction of Coach Dan- ny Grube the Patriots captured the Class AAAA Area 3 Wrestling tournament for the third year in a row. The entire wrestling staff peformed ex- cellently over the year. Two players, however, went beyond the call of duty. The Patriots received outstanding performances from Tannis Woolfolk and Randall Manuel. Coach Grube praised these two seniors as the best and most consistent wrestlers on the team. By e A ' ' Q W E Winners at Every Level - Reaching the Top! The fall of i987 proved to be another ex- iiting and most productive season for football at Southwest. The Ninth Grade team, coached by Robert Hudson, was all-powerful and thrilled :rowds with impressive wins over Northeast, Northside, Warner Robins, Baldwin and Cen- 'ral. This young team showed much promise with many outstanding players leading the eam. just a few of these included the quar- erback John Avery, running back Harry Royal, defensive end Sean Simmons, and inebacker Larry Miley. Because of their ex- :ellent performances, the ninth graders took 'ightful possession of the City Championship. L. ..4ntnqf The players pleased fans and provided a prom- ising future for many football seasons ahead. The B-Team Football Team, coached by Al- bert Sharpe and Harvey Appling , also had a fine group of talented young men. This sur- prising squad of youngsters went on to capture the City Championship by beating Central High School l4-0. Outstanding players that led this team included Ron Hill, Clifford Col- lier, Perez Cummings, and Derek Dumas. If this team continues to play as tough as they did this year, they will certainly prove to be impressive additions to the Varsity Team for the l988 campaign.
