At Southwest, sports is not just blood, sweat, and tears. Sports is receiving an applause at an assembly, eating ata banquet, and sometimes even waking up in the morning to find your picture or name on the front page of the sports section of the daily news. In addition to hours of work at the Cerebral Palsy Center, the group provided entertainment for citizens in convalescent homes. At school, the members hosted the wrestling tournament, sponsored a tea tor the teachers and measured Seniors for caps and gowns. Civinettes Cleaning the campus, painting the parking lot, making Easter Eggs for nurseries, giving food to the needy for Thanksgiving, collecting coloring books for the Medical Center children’s ward, preparing bulletin boards and painting bricks for door stops are all part of being a civinette. Beta Club The Beta club has been involved in several projects this year. The McEvoy B chapter worked with Christmas Projects. They donated toys to fire stations, collected can goods for the Salvation Army and sent Christmas cards to the faculty of McEvoy B. Their Bicentennial Project was making ornaments for each teacher's desk to welcome them back to school for the new year. St. Patrick’s Day Project was collecting donations for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. The Willingham B Chapter set up a tutoring service for students who were experiencing difficulty with school work. Annual Staff Though new and very inexperienced, The Annual Staff, dedicated and determined, works untiringly toward the publication of an annual that is second to none. Developing expertise in photography, lay-out, editing, art work ’ advertising, and publishing in general, the staff is aiming for success. re ar FB et) A = ia ett LE e Patri-Article Staff In addition to the many activities involved in publishing the school newspaper, The Patri- Article, the staff finds time to visit publishing companies to learn more about the production of a top-rate newspaper. The staff attended conventions and sold candy as fund raising projects. Complex Council started working long before the regular school year began. Summertime activities included car washes, workshops at N.A.S.C. convention and Berry College. The week before school started, council helped set up for registration and gave a tea for the faculty. Once classes started Complex Council was busy with sophomore elections, Bicentennial key chain sale, Homecoming elections, football pep rallies and dances, a luncheon for the basketball team, 6th district workshop, and Senior '76 jersey sales. The Exam Jam, a new activity initiated by the Council was held at the end of each quarter. Featuring spring sports, faculty talent show and the annual picnic lunch, Spring Fling Week was a roaring success. Providing leadership through student government, planning pep rallies to boost spirit, racking your brain for better methods of student involvement, sponsoring dances for all to enjoy, working to improve your school. . . being a Student Council member. Chorus With excellence in performance as top priority, the chorus has made a name for itself both locally and state-wide. -_ FBLA Prerequisites for FBLA are VOT participation or enrollment in a minimum of three business subjects. A mgiority is involved in community work programs after school. FBLA sponsored a booth at the Macon Mall during FBLA week and distributed fruit to nursing homes during Thanksgiving Holidays. The McEvoy B chapter of FHA included in its activities this year a fashion show. Other events were open house during ‘American Education Week , flowers to faculty members, Valentines to faculty members, a stationery sale and the painting of school garbage cans. Food Service Hosting teas and receptions, catering banquets for various community organizations and just taking advantage of being a part of a well structured class are primary concerns of this class. Exemplary of the fine manner in which this class operates is the fact that they are trained by a most capable instructor, Mrs. Addie Brewer.
