' H -' And many people said it wouldn't happen . . . With a diverse student body, drawn from two junior highs and two existing senior highs, Southwest was quickly labelled as one that would be impossible to unify. Yet, somehow, magically maybe, we have been able to get it all together and we have begun to spread the Raider name and tradition throughout the area. Many people said it wouldn't happen . Associated Student Body Activities also followed the pat- tern of being slow starters but strong finishers . Handicapped by having sometimes overly severe critics and too little money, your A .S .B. began to take its first steps at meetings held last summer. From those meager beginnings have evolved a fairly strong student activities program--from assemblies to athletics to journalism to drama to music-- the co-curricular offerings of this school reflect the hard work and dedication of many talented students and faculty . lVIany people said it wouldn't happen. lt is the hope of the A,S ,B , officers and commissioners that Southwest High School, the impossible school , will always be the school whose students continue To dream the impossible dream . . . Cheerleaders Display Endless Spirit l Southwest's lively group of cheerleaders quickly earned a reputation for spirit, stamina and precision in the entire district. While the athletic teams may not have had winning seasons, these eleven girls always represented the Raiders in a winning style. Their activi- ties included an over-whelmingly successful flower sale, and funny pep assembly skits. Also participation in a lVlarch cheerleading competition as well as attendance and cheer- ing at athletic events . No other first-year school could claim such outstanding spirit- raisers who have set high standards for future years.
