The Varsity squad, under the direction of Coach Bill Robinson, upheld the long standing pride of a league leading football power. Starting the year with a long trip to Joplin, the Bears caught the Indians unprepared. After a second loss, the team, led by quarterback Terry O'Leary, fought back and, with the surehanded pass catching of Alan Kelley and Dan Witcher, started a four game winning streak. Injuries that side- lined starters gave the juniors a chance to show their potential I with Jeff Bailey at quarterback, Craig Heath at halfback, and P Bill England at guard. In the following game against Central, I the Indians' defense came back strong led by Dave Norburg, Scott Higgins, Bill Taylor, Joe Ottolini and Mike Katon. After a bitter loss to Rockhurst, the team headed for Southeast for the league championship. 12fFootbal1
