Cross Country Bob Gavin steams up the hill. The Southwest Cross Country team participated in two dual meets, one triangular, and three invitationals. On September 10, the team defeated Van Horn 15-46, and a week later they defeated Rockhurst 19-41. The Raytown South Invitational was held at Swope Park, September 25, with Southwest finishmg tenth as a team. The following week the team placed seventh in the Ruskin Invitational held at the same course. The Warrensburg Mules Festival was run on the Pyrtle Springs golf course with Southwest finishing second to Sedalia Smith-Cotton. Southwest won the Interscholastic League Triangular at Swope Park on October 22. The score was Southwest 18, East 46, Van I-Iorn 74. The district meet was held at Longview Community College on Saturday, October 30. The team placed sixth in the meet, but Mark Bowman 's first place individual finish earned him a trip to Columbia to participate in the state meet. Representing Southwest, Mark earned a 14th place medal, competing against 201 boys from all over the state of Missouri. I-le lowered the Southwest Cross Country two-mile record to 10:01.
