Red Cross The Red Cross is the only service organization at Southwest. First semester the Red Cross sponsored the United Campaign. This year they used the idea of Trick or Treatl' to put some enthusiasm into the campaign. The annual Baby- doll dance which is a girl-ask-boy dance was a great success. Toys were donated by some of the Southwest students to the Salvation,Army. A woman from the Women 's Liberation spoke on a panel to the Red Cross. The Red Cross also sponsors a Yates Holiday Party. This is a party held at Yates Grade School in downtown Kansas City that occurs during Christmas time. The Red Cross has emphasized what will happen if our school levy fails to pass. The Red Cross should be acknowledged as giving great services to the betterment of our community. 13

Student ouncil The Student Council plays an important part in life at Southwest. The student honor pass system has continued again this year. This year ZOO seniors have been given the privilege of using an honor pass. These students are permitted to use the library, honor pass lounge, any place on the first floor, and may sit in a class room with the teacher's consent. Student Council has planned to ex- change assemblies with other schools. The first of these will be a Folk Assembly. Under Mr. Kipp 's supervision, there is a boy's intramural program. This intramural program started with the end of the football season. The Student Council continues to excel in its benefits to the students.
