Just as an entire year cannot be en- visioned from a single memory, 1969 at Southwest cannot be represented with a separation of events, organiza- tions, and people. Remembrance of the year past begins with the recollec- tion of an atmosphere, created by as- sociation and involvement-three thousand people on their feet cheering in the final moments of the Central game, a tense two days of North Cen- tral evaluation, 240,000 peanut clus- ters, heated controversy at open Stu- dent Council meetings, Coach Wey- forth thrown in the pool after the State swimming victory, and the pag- eantry of King Arthur's court-all are compiled into one memory collage. Soon, the clarity of outstanding events will become a fog, thus the most important thing a person will take from Southwest will be himself. The following pages distinguish the people and the situations that have helped to formulate the kind of per- son you are now. Here in retrospect is the final statement of 1969. Before its events become shades of gray, look and remember. When the world and I were young, Just yesterday, Life was such a simple game, A child could play. It was easy then to tell right from wrong Easy then to know weak from strong, When a man should stand up and fight, Or just go along. But today there is no day or night, Today there is no dark or light, Today there is no black or white, Only shades of gray. Barry Mann and Cynthia Well

ADMINISTRATION W. Lawrence Cannon-Principal In the tradition of his past l9 years, Mr. Cannon has success- fully guided Southwest through another academic year. When one takes pride in his student body as Mr. Cannon does, being principal is a rewarding experience. Southwest enjoys the reputa- tion of excellence in academic curriculum and distinction in an extensive program of extra-curricular activities, Mr. Cannon is recognized because of the interest he takes personally in both of these areas. It is not unusual to find Mr. Cannon on the playing field hours after school has been dismissed, discussing previous seasons with the football team. Mr. Cannon talking with students in the halls or auditing rehearsals for the senior play has always been a familiar sight. Because of the lasting friendships he has made with everyone at Southwest High School, lVlr. Cannon sees familiar faces wherever he travels in the world. It is tmusual to find an administrator who is as involved with the students and as interested in school activities as Mr. Cannon finds the time to be.
