Senior Officers Alison Shafer Secretary Alan Potter Sergeant-at-Arms Mary Don Woods Publicity Chairman Lee Shepherd President For four years the seniors looked forward to their final year of high school, their stepping stone to life. They had looked up to the members of previous graduating classes with awe and respect; this year, they too were given the opportun- ity and responsibility to meet the excellent standards set in years past. The class of 1965, however, did not merely match the accomplishments of those before them but added many new ones during the year. Twenty-two seniors led the football team to its first Interscholastic League champion- ship since 1951. The whirlpool bath, so long awaited by the athletic department, was finally purchased. A nationally famous band was secured for the Christmas Dance, and a record crowd of four hundred couples filled the cafeteria. Senior Day was initiated, and all enjoyed its varied activ- ities. The Unsinkable Molly Brown proved to be unsinkable with two sellout crowds. Southwest's candidate was chosen mayor for City Hall day. In the field of scholarship, the class of '65 was by no means lacking, as there were fourteen Na- tional Merit Scholarship finalists, two of whom were chosen Scholars. Many of these things are transient and will pass away; others are intangible. But each of them will continue to live in the minds of those who helped to bring them about—the seniors of the class of 1965. Pam Bourne Giftorian Harry Coe Vice-President Bill Hess Treasurer 27
