BIBENS Vice Principal Examination of Southwest High School re- veals it to be a healthy, thriving school com- munity which maintains a well-adjusted pro- gram rather evenly balanced among a variety of curricular and co-curricular activities. Yet, there is a respectable emphasis on the achievement of academic excellence. Since modern philosophy recognizes that a fully- rounded education encompasses a multiplicity of educational experiences, it would appear that the Southwest program has been well- planned and executed. Therefore, any stu- dent or teacher should be proud to be a member of such a smoothly-functioning edu- cational unit. 9

W. LAWRENCE CANNON Principal This 1961 Sctchem is replete with accounts of events and incidents which we shall be proud to remember. However, it would be expect- ing too much to assume that every plan which was conceived this year succeeded in every detail. Therefore, we may need a healthy perspective about failures and mis- takes we occasionally made. We can never completely avoid the possibility of making 8 an error, the fear of making one is the worst mistake of all. Since we learn by doing, we succeed by having at some time failed. We can remember that high failures often tower over low successes. We have definitely earned the right to rejoice over many wonderful achievements which worked out to our satis- faction this year. It was good, too, that we tried a few times and failed. Exai veal: mun gran of c Yet, achie mode
