This year a council created for the improvement of the activities at Southwest has effectively bettered school spirit and has promoted numerous ideas to improve the so- cial program. One of the main ob- jectives has been school dances. Beginning with a street dance in Waldo, a full schedule followed. The Christmas Literary Society dance was praised by all who at- tended. The sock hop, Halloween dance, heaven-hell dance at semes- ter, and a dance at the Elks' Club are just a few more examples to prove the effectiveness of the coun- cil's work. Another program advanced by the activi- ties council was that of assemblies. To heighten enthusiasm in school events, an assembly was held once a week. A long anticipated jazz assembly and a Russian assembly were high points in the schedule. A Christmas card exchange raised money for the foreign exchange program. A stu- dent directory made it easy to know every- one's phone number. Programs and more pep rallies helped to raise spirit for sport- ing events. The election of officers for every class made each class run more smoothly. The students of Southwest High School salute these people who have made this social year such a success by their work on the activities council. 5
