Throw owoy your peace pipef' Though hampered by a lack of experienced players, the 1958 Southwest gridders, nevertheless, gained three victories and a tie. Their most thrilling achievement was licking a twelve year jinx by beating Shawnee-Mission, 13-12. Subsequent matches held much disappointment as the Indians faced and lost to the top four teams in the city. Against Lincoln the squad again found the winning way and followed up with a victory over Van Horn. Then, in the final game of the season, the warriors fought powerful Paseo to a tie. Next year our football prospects are brighter since many of the lettermen will be returning after a year of varsity experience. Southwest pushes on. - - s sgi-rmxxsg-g.s.sx1,t,Q1s.ssmNF3Wm4

Anotlzer fouelzdoiun Indians Scalp Mission!! The tom-toms resounded wildly as the South- west Indians held the final powwow before the battle with the Shawnee-Mission hraves. Cheered on by the tribe, the proud warriors danced around the fire. In the Shawnee village, the champions listened complaeently to their oppo- nents, war cries as they sharpened their toma- hawks for another conquest. It was a cold, dark night when the tribes met in mortal combat. The Shawnee Indians suc- cessfully attacked first, but the valiant South- west hraves struck back with two swift blows. Rallying, the Kansans almost turned the tide of battleg but when the dust had cleared, South- west emerged triumphant. XVith whoops of ex- ultation, the eonquerors returned to their tee- pees, leaving a bewildered and crest-fallen foe and victory! 13
