views. Several of Miss Guyer's American history students will have a decided advantage over other college freshmen next fall. The fortun- ate seniors who participated in Southwests first Advanced Placement class may receive up to five hours of college credit for success- ful completion of the enriched course. VVide reading, frequent discussion, and individual research into varied topics give the students in this class a more thorough understanding of the subject than they would receive in a regular high school course. This challenging type of work has proved to be not overly difficult: on the contrary, every student has thoroughly enjoyed a stimu- lating course taught by an excellent teacher. Doing college Work in high school is indeed a rare privilegeg it is hoped that in the future the program will be expanded at Southwest in order to give this valuable educational op- portunity to a greater number of students. are happy people A panel cliscussion on the American Revolution al- lows students to air their Wl1o's playing 'possumi' Family Living students use posters to aid Fusing metal with a their class discussions. 60000 F. arc

A thing of beauty is a joy foreverf The newly renovated art room is indeed a thing of beauty as well as a carefully pla11ned work room. New floors, an acoustical ceiling, modern- istic lights, Venetian blinds, and peach-colored walls are both practical and decorative. The new desks of blond wood, designed by Miss Ruth Beck, have adjustable tops and handy supply drawers. Bulletin boards have replaced blackboards and give ample room for display of art work. These l completely new features of decoration l provide a most attractive studio for young artists. Students learning the professional silk-sc'l'een process. Early to bed and early to rise Makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise. If this old saying is true. several students at Southwest should benefit by their rising early enough to attend 7:30 classes in chemistry, drafting, and art. It may be difficult to arrive at school almost before dawn, but it is pleasant to be dismissed an hour early in the afternoon. Next year the new junior high will relieve the overcrowded conditions which make such early classes necessary this year. Ola, lam' I hate to get up in the morning! Busy people 10 s
