Shoot from the floor, Come on, Southwest, raise that scoref' This cheer was just one of the many that helped South- west to beat Beaumont in one of the most exciting games of the season. As a result of this victory Beaumonfs winning streak was ended at 40 games in a row. This win gave Southwest a five and four record for the season. R ff Tennis Coach: Mr. Close Under the able direction of Mr. Close the net- men of Southwest finished in a tie for second place with the Rough Riders of Roosevelt. The team as a whole had a record of 19 wins-and 11 losses. The first singles spot was held down most capably by Gene Ziervogel. ln the second and third positions, Tyler Hawk and James Nelson starred, each contributing greatly to the standings of Southwestas team. The brightest spot this year was the undefeated first doubles team, Art Ruff and Steve Bryant. The second doubles consisting of Ron Schowalter and Robert Pflueger did an outstanding job also. The team alternates were Joe Frimmel, William Nelson, Dennis Potter, and Dick Gephardt. The outlook for next year is very bright. and South- westls chances of winning the championship are good. g'They never give upf' were the words of the B-team cagers coach, Joel Beezley. Wfhey always show good sportsmanship and competitive spiritfi Out of the eleven boys that composed the B- Team, two are considered to be the most promising prospects for the varsity cagers. They are Dale Yount and Jim Graves. Dale led the B-Team scor- ing with 236 points for the season. The other members of the team, Carl Harris, Steve Goldman, ,lim Shanahan, joe Favignano, Ted Popowechak, Jim Nelson, Kindall Hite, Jack Beacher, and Chuck Robinson also gave a good account of themselves.
