MERCHANT Although our Junior Longhorns were thrown for four losses against two wins for the 1951 foot- ball season, they played better football than the record indicates. The team, made up of green players for the most part, is one of considerable promise. The close scores show that with proper seasoning they will make good. With such players as Bob Straeb and Nick Chiapelas to lead the stampede next year Southwest will garner another football title. POLSTER The Varsity cagers had a most successful season, winning fifteen and losing nine games. In the hotly contested league play they corraled Eve broncs while two escaped. The highlight of the season was the trip to Normal and Lexington, Illinois. where the boys broke even in two games. The va- queros galloped to second place in the Nor- mandy Holiday Consolation Tourney and won fourth place in the State Regional Tourney. Nelson Reed, who was the top scorer, cap- tained the team. His regulars were Ruck, Stenger, Gleason, Allen, Martin, Schlapprizzi, and Moss. Bill Ditenhafer and Dick Niebling were lost on the trail by January graduation. The boys, who will lead in next season's roundup are Schall, Rabe, Mueller, and Stormont.
