CHAMPIONSHIP LINEUP Left end--Don Schapprizzi Left tackle-Bob Kilcullen Left guard-Sam Sapienza Center-Dick Schall Right guard-Carl Dickey Right tackle-Courtney Koester Right end-Bill Moxley Quarterback-Bob Ruck Left half-Mike Marino Right half-Ward Paglusch Full back-Joe Danklef This championship line-up, sup- ported by a very strong squad, won honors as the St. Louis Public High League Champs. Sports writ- ers forecasted this early in the sea- son. Led by the hard running back- field of Bob Ruck, Ward Paglusch, Mike Marino and Joe Danklef the Longhorns stampeded through their pre-season and league games rolling up decisive scores. As in past seasons the biggest threat to Southwest supremacy was Beau- mont. When time for the final and deciding game rolled around, the two teams had not yet met, and each had a fine record of five league victories. In a thrilling game the Longhorns came through to put the Southwest brand upon Beau- mont 19 to 13. Several thousand fans watched tensely as the steers faced the Prep League champions in the Annual Accident Benefit game. Although chilling rain and sleet hampered the Steers' aerial attack, they made repeated gains on the ground against a strong St. Louis Uni- versity High team. The hard fought game ended with St. Louis High leading 13 to 12. A post-season Polio Bowl game with Sikeston, played at Charles- ton, Missouri, resulted in a 7 to 7 tie to end the Longhorns' most outstanding season. 1Couru y ol' I'ost-Dispatch I.
