'I va -we 0l elfU0l Glue me the homeless, the tempes!-tostf' i,4Gf'.g if A land of snow-capped mountains and fertile valleys, of wide rivers and laughing brooks, of broad, rolling plains and towering forests-this is America, the land of promise. To this land came the homeless, the tempest-tost of the Old World in search of a better life for themselves and their families. Some came for adventure, some to spread the gospel of Christianity, some for economic betterment, and all for freedom and contentment. These Wanderers brought with them many gifts to the New World, gifts that have made the great melting pot the foremost nation of the World. Southwest High School oiers an example of the many nationalities which make an American. Not one would want to return to the land of his ancestors. Each would say along with Archibald MacLeish: This is our land, this is our ancient ground- The rare earth, the mixed blood and the strangers, The different eyes, the wind, and the hearts change.
