When we entered Southwest tiye years ago we were eighth graders lost in a crowd ot' people. lt seemed we could neyer hope to knowlthem hy sight much less to know them person- ally and to loye them. However we became acquainted heeause it was only natural to do so and this was the heginning. Uur class was outstanding from the yery first. We saw proof of the tact. when Gwen Roane and Larry ,lones were elected Queen and King ofthe school. ln the last King and Queen contest to he held at Southwest. our class won the honor again w ith Nlary l,owe Thompson. Queen and Hit-hard Parker. King. The class otticers elected for our ninth grade year were lflliott Pyron, Presidentg Tommy tlaryin. Yiee Piesidentg and Gail Barher. Secretary. ln our Sophomore year we elected tiharles Dax id- son. President: Tom Hoherts. Yice President: and Nancy tlrowe. Secretary. as ot'l'i1'ers to lead our class. As ,luniors we had the most exciting year ol' our high school lives thus far. The Haryard Book was awarded to Bill Heidecker for heing the most outstanding Junior hoy. At the annual Sweetheart Dance. Julia Diamond was crowned sweetheart of Southwest. The higgest campaign ot' the year was the campaign for stu- dent hody officers. When the speeehes were oyer and all the posters were down it was announced that Tommy Caryin would he our Student Body President for 1958-59, and Bill Hei- decker, Vice President and .Iulia Diamond, Secretary-Treas- urer. April hrought with it the junior-Senior Prom with its theme April Loyeu. Our ,lunior-Senior in reality fulfilled what we had impatiently awaited in our dreams. It was not only the dance that was so wonderful. it was also the fact that this was our first .lunior-Senior. The success ot' the danee was greatly due to the hard work ot' our officers. Charles David- son. President: Gail Howard. Yice President: Dawn Blanken- ship. Secretary: Nancie Fnglund. Treasurer: and ,lulia Dia- mond and Phillip Freeman. Social Chairmen. ln the Beta tiluh and National Honor Society inductions. many students ol' our class hecaine niemhers. Highlights of our Senior year were Homecoming. with Peggie Wilson as our loyely Homecoming Queen. the Sweet- heart Dance with Jackie Wooddall crowned the school sweet- heart. and the Senior Play. Turn Back the Clock . Our Senior Class officers were Charles Davidson. President forthe third straight year: Janet Stoyall. Yice President: Susan Ham- hrick. Treasurer: and Peggie Wilson. Secretary. Southwest has heen more than five years ot' study. work. and play. It has been a pilgrimage into the future. during which we have learned that there are two educations. one which teaehes a person how to make a lix ing and the other how to live. 21
