The day we Seniors got our rings was unforgettable. Class History It is the dream of every sub-freshman when he enters Southwest to be a senior and a graduate of Southwest High School. Through live years of hard work and lots of fun, at last we have reached the peak of our high school dreams. As we turn back time and look into the past we remember the day we entered as sub-freshmen, completely different from grade school, we found we were on our own. There were many different clubs to choose between and sports to take part in. In the spring of our first year, June Griffith and Jerry Linton were chosen king and queen of Southwest. This event was climaxed with the annual King and Queen Ball, where they were crowned. The fall of our freshman year was quite a bit different. This year we were older and well adjusted to the whirl of high school teenagers. Although nothing outstanding happened during our ninth grade year, it was an exciting and treasured one. Our Sophomore year was one of our best loved. This year was so crowded 'with activities and exciting events that it is hard to say which was most outstanding. The Junior Na- tional Honor Society was founded and several members of our class were inducted. By this time a large percentage of our class was participating in some varsity sport, the band, or the chorus. We were upper-classmen and were looking forward to the exciting path ahead of us. Glamour and enthusiasm lilled the air in the fall of our Junior year. This year we started with a bang-class ollicers were elected first. Pat Malone, presidentg Lin Smith, vice- presidentg Diane Moon, secretaryg Martha Tovell, treasurer, and Janice Mills, social chairman, were our capable leaders. The Beta Club induction was a big event that year. Fifteen members of our class were tapped. Mary Jane Minor was elected secretary of the State Beta Club. One of the most exciting festivities of the year was the Junior-Senior dance. The dance was a result of much hard work and a booming success. In the spring of the same year, Dan Crowe was awarded the Harvard Book, which is presented to the most outstanding Junior boy each year. April was filled with cam- paigning and elections. Lin Smith, Steve Cowart, and Anne Robinson were elected student body oilicers for the coming year. The Howl and Resume staffs were elected also. One of our most exciting events was the day our Senior rings were ordered. At last we felt like Seniors! The year was climaxed with the election of our Senior Class oilicers, who were: Pat Malone, president: Butch McLendon, vice-president, Sylvia Herrington, secretary, and Virginia Lockhart, treasurer. The fall of 1956 was both happy and sad, for we were deserving seniors. This year has been one of the best in our lives. We worked hard and loved every minute of it. The constant buzzing of the Howl staff and the suspense the Resume staff was arousing filled our days with fun. Our Senior pictures were made and graduation invitations were ordered. Graduation was planned and all attended the Junior-Senior dance. This time we were on the receiving end. Oh! how nice it seemed. The production of No More Homework was presented as the Senior Class play. As we return to the present time we gaze upon the past as something wonderful and the biggest part of our high school days at Southwest. Now that we are about to embark upon new adventures, we realize the responsibilities that we will accept as graduates of Southwest.
