SMITH Staff Personnel Services The administration of the Atlanta schools has changed a great deal in the past few years. It is headed by the Superintendent, Dr. Ira Jar- rellg the deputy superintendent, Dr. Kenneth Williamsg and the six district supervisors. The object of the six district supervisors is to help all students learn as much as they are capable of and help the teachers with their in- dividual problems. The area supervisors have a staif working with them that visits the schools and helps the teachers in their classes. In many schools the administration has set up special classes to help improve the students in their work. There are special classes set up in English and mathematics for students who have advanced above the rest of the class and for those who are not as far along as the other students. DR. ED S. The Language Department instructs students in actual grammar usage, and places continual emphasis on the develop- ment of a more tolerant attitude towards people of other lands and their language. Duke University . 4 .l- Commercial The purpose of the Commercial Department is to bring students closer to everyday living by creating interest in the business world. Most of the modern types of equipment and machines found in business establishments are available to students for training purposes. The courses offered are typing, general business, bookkeep- ing, business arithmetic, shorthand, and ollice practice. The Commercial Department prepares students to hold good jobs in business after graduation.
