lbecbcafion A friendly disposition, a helping hand, and a sense of humor characterize the teacher that we have chosen for our dedication. He spent his early years in Buchanan, Georgia, where he was born. He attended George Peabody College where he participated in many school activities and also developed techniques that have helped to make him an outstanding teacher. After college, he spent four years in the navy. After the navy, he began his teaching career at College Grove, Tennessee. At the high school in College Grove, where he was also basketball coach, he made many friends. After three years of teaching there, he came to Atlanta and Southwest where he has been ever since. He has made many friends everywhere he has gone, but the best loved of his friends are the young people who have been his students. These young people love him because of his high standards of living, his understanding of young people and their problems, and his willingness to help others. All of these factors and more have set him apart as one of the most outstanding people in the teaching profession. For these reasons we have decided to dedicate this 1956 Resume to Mr. Cecil Thornton. The members of the Resume staff would like to say that Mr. Thornton knew nothing of our plan to dedicate this Resume to him. .f l
