This portrayal of memories is rather diflicult to do as these are an association not only of incidents but of beliefs and hopes which have different meanings to each of us. PEEP ,N TOM will cover their assignment as photographer and reporter as we re-live with them some of our favorite memories. 8 MISS MAR WINTERBOTTOM Miss Maryghiter ottom represents to us the ideals and the friendliness of Southwest High School. She has en- deared herself to the faculty and to the student body through her loyalty and her sincere devotion to us and to our school. The Senior Class proudly dedicates the 1954 edition of the Resume' to Miss Mary Winterbottom. CLASS H1sToRY What a happy sojourn at Southwest we have had! We, the present senior class, felt four years ago that we were the pioneers of a school that one day would be outstand- ing. We knew, of course, that there had been other good classes, but we felt that certainly there could have been none quite like ours. And we sincerely believe that we have had no reason during our four years here to change our minds. Ours has been a happy, co-operative, and successful class. When we were freshmen, we looked up to the upper classmen in our new school and thought that they must be the most wonderful people anywhere. Our one burn- ing ambition was to become seniors ourselves, and now we have reached that goal. We have had a pleasant time together attaining this, although at times the going has seemed rugged. We feel that the inspiration and the guidance of our wonderful teachers have been largely responsible for our success. To us the years have sped by all too fast. Many honors have come to our school and to our class during these years. One of the most. exciting has been for us to see our Girls' Basketball team, after hovering near the top of our city league for a time, at last attain the City League and Regional championship. The tirev less efforts of the coach as well as the splendid backing of our student body has been an inspiration to all. Our own Dolores Waits has been top scorer of points this season in the city. Then, we have seen our Cross Coun- try team make a creditable showing as well as our other teams of which the seniors are an important part. We have a very active Beta Club of which 28 seniors are a part, and this year we have had the pleasure of organizing a National Honor Society. We are extremely proud of these two organizations. We have seen our Student Council grow into an organization which is very vital to our school life and our Student Court develop into one that we feel is out- standing in our school system. This court has proved to all that we students are capable, with guidance, of fos- tering good discipline, together with a splendid school spirit, within our student body. We have had a part in making our school paper, The Howl, a popular edition, we have sponsored happily the editing of our yearbook, The Resume, and struggled tire- lessly in selling the ads, which make the book possible. Besides these activities we have taken an active part in clubs, school programs, and contests that have been available to us. And, of course, we have found one of our greatest thrills in the presentation of our Senior play. As Juniors we sponsored the Junior-Senior Prom which was a great event in our lives and as Seniors we have had an even greater and more thrilling experience in our own Senior Dance. We shall never forget this dance nor our mixed emotions-the thrill of graduation, the sound of the beautiful music, the rhythm of the dance as well as the realization that this was the end of something we had grown to love. No more carefree high school days! This is only a sketchy resume of a few of the activities we shall remember. There are scores of others. As we say goodbye to Southwest, it is with a feeling of regret, how- ever, it is a thrill to us to realize that we shall soon be assuming new responsibilities in the colleges we shall attend, in the business world which we shall enter, or in other fields that await us. It was grand being here, and we pledge that by our future activity this class of '54 shall bring nothing but honor to Southwest High. nl' ' f 151. fl'- s ' c T -, -1 Class Will I, Hoke Archer, do hereby bequeath my achy feet and squeaky military shoes to my brother, Billy.
