Such improvement and effective management are attributed to his vast experience in the educational field as teacher, principal and superintendent. Mr. Cernusek entered the teaching profession in 1928. He served as Superintendent at Moulton, Texas in 1938. Prior to his arrival i.n the Southwest District, in 1963, Mr. Cernosek headed Mercedes High School as Superintendent. Due to his techniques in the administrative realm, funds from two bond issues and several grants made possible the construction of thirteen classrooms, a library and administrative offices in Southwest Elementa- ry l. Eleven classrooms, a library, cafetorium, and administrative offices were established in Elemen- tary ll. On the high school campus, expansion was most evident. A football stadium was erected on the west side of the campus. Four class buildings, 24 SUPERlNTENDENTfMR. STANLEY F. CERNOSEK including urgently needed science and commercial facilities, sprung up. Also, a recent addition has been the FFA greenhouse for horticultural instruction. Establishment of a new junior high school, consisting of twenty-three classrooms, a library, cafeteria, gymnasium, and administrative offices, was the result of thorough planning and diligent work of both the Board of Trustees and Mr.Cernosek. Not only has the district undergone material improvement, but it has reached a higher standard of education. Measures have been taken to develop a curriculum guide for the instruction of students from the first through the twelfth gradesg this will allow a continuity ofthe learning process in each field of instruction. Mr. Cernosek has helped improve the school structure whose student population has grown from 1,150 students in 1963 to 2,744 i.n 1969. His personable approach, accompanied by a unique friendliness, has made him a well-liked administra- tor, honored by students and school personnel for six years of valuable service for Southwest District.
