Gail Pettyjohn, 2 years. Majorettes Show Leadership Marjorettes, Gail Pettyjohn, Mary Mary Lou Chavez Southwest Dragon Band, under the direction of Mr. Michael Pagonis, skillfully displayed their various talents during the past year. Parades were an important part of the band's curriculum, illistrated by participation in the Lytle, Poteet, Fiesta, and Rodeo parades. In addition to the regional marching and solo and ensemble COIIICSI, the band and choir presented a Christmas program at the State Hospital, as well as for the student body of Southwest, To open the s pri ng season on a joyous note, Elementary 2 band joined with the Dragon Band for A Musical Tour Around the World, presented in concert at Elementary 2. This provided the b an d with practice for the regional concert contest. The band closed the sea- son with the concert and sight-reading contest held at Fort Sam Hous- ton High School. Cheerleaders Arouse Enthusiasm, Pride, Cheers of excitement and tears of disappoint- ment characterized the atmosphere of our 1966-67 football season. Cheerleaders Janet Bitner, Con- nie Aldridge and Sue Eppler, did their best to raise the spirit of Southwest fans. Our cheerlead- ers spent a significant amount of time and effort making signs, rehearsing routines and practicing cheers. They were often seen before game time proudly wrapping the goal posts with Green and White. Tremendous credit must be given to the suc- cess ofthe cheerleaders in their combined effort to lead and improve our shcool spirit.. The time spent, tears shed, and work accomplished have been compensated by their success as cheerleaders of 1966-67.
