Blue jeans, overalls, red-checkered shirts, ponytails and freckles marked the first of a five-dayyspirit week - it was hillbilly day. Tuesday, Bicentennial day, was an eye-catching assortment of red, white and blue including clothes, hats, and shoes. The third day ,and probably the funniest was fifties day. Students and faculty alike participated in. showing their spirit by wearing long, grey woolen skirts, bobby socks and saddle shoes, pony- tails, rolled up blue jeans, T-shirts, and greased back hair. All this was followed by Thursday's hat, jersey, and glasses day. Visitors to the school did a double takelas students walked by in jerseys, goggles and an assortment of floppy, feathery, old and new hats. Finally the blue and gold day. Everyone wore whatever they had in blue and gold. And that's just the beginning! Along with the dress-up part of Spirit Week, organizations got into the act with their annual Homecoming float competition. All the floats were well-constructed with beautiful colors and characters. Among the most outstanding floats were: KAPPA' - 3rd place, Jr. Civitan - 2nd place, DECA - 1st place and Ir. Civitan - most Bicentennial.

The tears, screams, hugs, and smiles that come with the announcement of Homecoming candidates and court were only the beginning to the excitement and anticipation of this event. There were eighty-six candidates, 13 of which were chosen by the students to be the 1975 Homecoming Court. They were Cindy Buttrill, WeeSe Donalson, Stephanie Ferguson, Marilyn Hairston, Kim Harmon, Judy Merkl, Beth Mathis, Catherine Mathis, Michelle Metaxas, Pat Quinn, Gayle Smith, Shelley Steele, and Susan Stranahan. When all the hugging and jumping up and down had subsided, the cheerleaders helped to ELEVATE YOUR MIND while you GOT YOURSELF TO- GETHER and the band let everyone know why SWD is Number 1!
