Suddenly -e Silver splits the restless sky. A rumble drifts in from the west to join the soft patter of unseen droplets Mother Nature promptly divides into two opposing forces for the battle. The tension mounts as the struggle continues, gaining both force and fury each second. Without warning, all motion is terminated - a gentle calm descends. The forces disperse to parts unknown. Such is a thunderstorm. Laurie MacLeod Wind Wind plays a cantata Between the bare branches Of a lone oak tree expecting Applause. Ben Taylor Duo , 1 On the retum trip Fire-colored trees follow their road-master Like a faithful infinite shadow. Behind, Yellow, Drying Grass fields roll back into a thin dark pine edge broken Qoccasionallyl by the land-sowers' tiny houses granted the land's permission to remain. Nancy Veach Morning the sun shines and earth glistens with life time stands still, but seagulls fly over blue waters toward that place fsomewhere in timej where water and sky and life and light meet and become one Amy Lussier 181 7 c Sleep, then overcame me. Slowly it filled every thought I'd found it trickled dowm on me and pulled my eyelids down. My bed slowly started turning and rocking toward my mind. Dream covered breaths of air Left real thoughts far behind. Steaming pictures cooled my wants Cold now burns the face I remembered a dark thought and watched a bright dream fall to the mo ming. Marty Wallis The sky was red with anger the wind boiled with turmoil. How long will we go on without having concern for our fellow man. Lynde Worley Bundled Up . She collected shopping bags, l had a whole collection of shopping bags. When you saw her she was always bundled up in layer, upon layer, upon layer, of clothes 5 old ratty clothes, found clothes. She talked to me when she saw me on the street. She talked to everybody when she saw them, she talked to the radio, the birds on top of straight and tall brown poles. on the sidewalks right next to the crack, to the old flattened waxy Dixie cups, to grey tramped-on grass, to the sky fwas her favorite thing.j She resided in a spot fwe must all always reside on a spotl behind a billboard, with strips of papering falling off, by Mr. Weens at 6th and Hill Streets. And where she kept her spot most of the time was behind that paper sign with SAVINGS and LOANS advertised. But sleeping behind savings and loans got her a beating to death instead of saving her anything. So she slept as always - oblivious and not in the world caring of the street lights, neon signs flashing, cars brights, or muggers but in a frozen red pool tonight, bundled up in layer, upon layer, upon layer, of clothes, old ratty clothes, found clothes. The cool autumn morning shines with a clear brilliance, never before understood. The cattle moo in a low key, the chickens are all huddled up. And in the apple tree the spider weaves his web. With each pattern and more the dew droplets sparkle and shine like diamonds on the cool fall morning.
