To your left is Sandlot Stadium, home of the Lorelei Ladies and their fabulous shortstop, Bobbie Damron. The Lorelei Ladies are an Atlanta Softball team that plays up and down the East Coast. Last year the team won 55 games and lost 15. When Bobbie was a child in Kentucky, there were no girls' teams, so she played Little League with the boys. Later she played with high school, college, and amateur teams and joined the Lorelei Ladies in 1963. Playing for the Ladies is not all fun and games it's all practice and games. They practice at least twice a week and play four games every week end. When school ends, the schedule becomes even more hectic. Bobbie plays many positions . , . second, third, short' stop anything but catcher. The first tand last! time Bobbie played catcher was as a substitute for the injured regular. The too-large face mask kept slipping over her eyes and when she tried to throw out a runner stealing second base, the ball ended up in the dugout! Bobbie's hard work made her an All-American in 1971 and she has been on several All'Star teams. Last year she was voted the Ladies' Most Valuable Player. They know that Bobbie is a real gem on the diamond. Now, to your right, is Miss Catherine Young, Keeper of the animals at the SWD Zoo. This is a new job for her since she has only recently become involved in organizations that help the wild life in America. Miss Y0ung's interest began at the age of thirteen, when she read an article on the slaughter of seals. lt was a very disturbing article and made a deep im- pression on a young mind. Miss Young's concern became apparent when she began her job at SWD as keeper of the zoo. She has started a Wild Life Club for the preservation' of her zoo. The club circulates petitions and sends letters to Congressmen. Be careful now as you pass through her 5WD Zoo. She cares very much about her animals and hopes you will, too. And here we are, back at our starting point, We hope you've enjoyed your tour. .11
