Education Ojfer Preparation For Future Leaders How to make a vase out of a detergent bottle, what to do when a seven year old bites his classmate, and where to find an appropriate song about a turtle comprised only a few questions for persons in teacher education. When public school opened, 100 student teach- ers grappled with these questions. Following this September experience the prospective teachers began their professional semester. In- cluding eight weeks of teaching in elementary or secondary schools and eight weeks of con- centrating on campus courses, this semester was also a period of intensive counseling from faculty members. Hrs. Templin. Mr. Moore. and Mr. Dudley had accumulated 25 years of teaching physical education before joining the faculty. Added this year to basketball. tennis. and golf as major sports for men was inter-collegiate baseball. This year woinen's tennis. volleyball. and softball, introduced in other years, re- ceived greater stress with extended inter- collegiate schedules. Revision of the curricu- lum gave each person eight different activities in the four semesters. Under the guidance of the department the PEM Club enlarged. In- tramural sports led by Coach Stewart offered 12 activities ranging from horseshocs to flag football.
