All students in the second year class are eligible tor mem- bership and tirst year pupils having at least a B average may ioin. The Club's purpose is to cultivate interest in the German language and customs. Led by president Hurley Robbins and other ot- ticers, vice president, Rex Good: sec- retary, Marsha Elliot: treasurer, Leon Mosher: and historian, Gail Barrett, the club has enjoyed several interesting meetings and social events. FOOTBALL squad gave Southside a bright outlook on the tuture by making a very good showing in the '54 - '55 campaign. As was the case with the Varsity, their great success should not be measured in points but in ability gained. Under the painstaking direction ot Coaches Abe Ferris and Bob Haber- salt, the Junior Hornets won over halt ot the Conterence games. Several ot the underclassmen matched the boys ot the Varsity in de- termination and skill, but due to their inexperience and lack ot size were held to the Junior team. When the sectional meet came up, Southside's matmen looked to be in the peel: ot condition. Yet, as tate would have it, they bowed graciously to their superiors ot rival schools. Such amusing incidents as a senator being trapped in the White House petunia bed, a judge having a chimney tall on him, and a woman invading a museum, all caused by a gentle, likeable lady. occured in the play. The play was climaxed by an epilogue which greatly moved the audience, Here, as Mrs. Savage and the Teddy Bear gazed in wonder, were portrayed the guests as they wished to be: a famous pianist, an expert violinist, a happy mother with her child, and a beautitul girl. At first, the Hornets just could not seem to get started as they lost one game after another, but by midvseason they finally hit their stride and finished the year with a record of 9 wins and 7 losses. The high point of the season toolc place in the last game as Southside set a new city scoring record, turning baclc Horse- heads 95-83. In the same game Dave Golden set a new in- dividual scoring record as he dropped in 43 points for the Hornets.
